Huser Convicted of First-Degree Murder for Second Time

The Des Moines Register reports that an Ankeny man has been convicted of first-degree murder again. A Polk County jury found 66 year old Vernon Huser guilty in the 2004 death of Lance Morningstar, whose body was found in 2005.  Huser was convicted for the first time in 2010 but the Iowa Court of Appeals ordered a new trial due to hearsay evidence.  His attorney says Huser now faces a mandatory life sentence after rejecting a deal by prosecutors that would have given him six years in prison on a lesser charge.
