Law Enforcement Urges Safety for New Years Holiday

Local law enforcement are urging everyone to use caution when it comes to celebrating the New Years holiday. Fort Dodge Assistant Police Chief Kevin Doty says statistics show alcohol-related crashes are four times more likely to occur at night time, and on a night when alcohol is consumed more, motorists should plan ahead

Several law enforcement agencies, including the Fort Dodge Police Department, have received state grant funding to allow for increased enforcement on roadways. Last year there were just two New Years Eve fatalities on Iowa roadways and neither were alcohol related. Iowa State Patrol Lt Kelly Hindman says with 316 road fatalities to date, Iowa is on pace to set an all-time record low for a calendar year.
