Marshalltown Man to Serve 87 Years for Shooting Death, Abuse of Corpse
A Marshalltown man was sentenced to 87 years in prison for a shooting death and abusing a corpse. In December 30 year-old Jeremy Gartin was convicted of voluntary manslaughter, abuse of a corpse, and carrying a concealed weapon in the death of David Warnell. Warnell's fingers, teeth, and patches of tattooed skin were removed from his body after his death. Gartin testified that the shooting was accidental and he was high when he and another man attempted to remove parts of Warnell's body to try to keep it from being identified.
