A proposal to increase water rates in Fort Dodge received final approval from the city council last night. On it's third reading, the Fort Dodge City Council voted 4-2 to increase water rates, which will take effect on July 1. Rates will be increased 1.5% each year through 2017. Councilmen Terry Moehnke, Jeffrey Halter, Andy Fritz, and Kim Alstott voted in favor while Dean Hill and Don Wilson voted against. Council members have said the rate increase is necessary to raise money for infrastructure improvements.
