Local Officials Warn to Keep Away from Flood Waters

Local officials are warning area residents to stay away from and out of flood waters. The National Weather Service issued a river flood warning yesterday until further notice for the Des Moines River at Fort Dodge. It is also in effect from the municipal power dam to Lehigh. Late yesterday morning, the stage was measured at 11.5 feet, which would be one foot above flood stage. The weather service says minor flooding is occurring and is forecast to continue.  City Public Works Director Greg Koch reported some low line areas near the river have experienced minor flooding. Crews have closed Avenue B at Avenue C in both directions, and have also barricaded the boat ramp by the old golf course.
