Two Graettinger Children Killed in House Fire

Officials in Palo Alto County say two children were killed as a result of a Monday morning house fire. In a news release, the Palo Alto County Sheriff's Office says shortly after 6:30am, a fire was reported in the 200 block of South Jackson Avenue in Graettinger. An occupant of the house, 27 year-old Stephanie Gaston, was able to escape, but couldn't get her children to safety. They were identified as 7 year-old Collin Reed and 5 year-old Gavin Hansbrouck. Gaston was being treated at the University of Iowa. Investigators believe the fire originated in the living room of the home. The state fire marshal's office continues to investigate.
