A 17 year old boy died yesterday as a result of a shooting. The identity of the boy has not been released publicly, Webster County Medical Examiner Dr. Dan Cole pronounced him dead yesterday afternoon. The death occurred at 721 North 8th St in Fort Dodge.A family member called 911 around 12:45 PM yesterday and police responded to the scene. Fort Dodge Police Captain Ryan Gruenberg said that police are exploring all avenues and that there are troo many variables to rule out or decide on the cause of death as of this time. Gruenberg stated that there is potential that it was accidental. After officers arrived and blocked off the scene there were a number of bystanders who were visibly emotionally distraught. At one point there were 2 fights that broke out on opposite corners of the street that included a dozen people. Police personnel scrambled to maintain order around the scene, it’s unclear the reasoning behind the fights or if arrests were made following them? The 17 year old was a student at Fort Dodge Senior High when school officials received word of the shooting death of the student off campus they placed Fort Dodge Senior High on a “lock out” for around 30 minutes yesterday afternoon before lifting the lockout prior to the end of school yesterday afternoon, before lifting it prior to the end of school yesterday. Captain Gruenberg confirmed the schools were not in any danger as a result of the shooting. The shooting is still under investigation, We plan have more on this story when new details emerge.
