The 2019 Iowa State Softball Tournament opened yesterday here in Fort Dodge. This year marks the 49th consecutive year the tournament has been held at Harlan and Hazel Rogers Sports Complex. The 2019 version of the tournament features various local teams. In the Class 1A bracket Newell-Fonda opened their appearance yesterday with a win over Lynnville-Sully 7-5. Newell- Fonda will play again today ( Tuesday July 23rd) at 11am in the Semifinals taking on Collins-Maxwell. In the 3A division Algona qualified for state but fell short in their Quarterfinal match up with the #1 seed in 3A Davenport Assumption 3 to 2. Algona plays again today (Tuesday July 23rd) at 3pm vs Albia in the consolation bracket. Class 5A will begin play today, Fort Dodge is the #2 seed in 5A and will take on West Des Moines Valley at 7pm tonight (Tuesday July 23rd) that game will air on Sunny 99.7 with Rob Jones and Brian Peters on the call. The Dodgers will play again tomorrow (Wednesday July 24th) with a win vs West Des Moines Valley they would play in the Semifinals tomorrow night at 7pm against the winner of Cedar Rapids Kennedy or Iowa City High. If the Dodgers lose vs WDM-Valley then they would play again tomorrow in the consolation bracket at 3pm against the loser of that game.
