The 6th installment of Downtown County Jam will feature Josh Turner, an artist with the
highest number of Top-10 charted hits ever to play the event. Turner’s appearance is part
of his Long Black Train 20th Anniversary Tour commemorating the official release of his
debut album, title track and breakthrough single, Long Black Train in 2003. This year’s
event will take place Saturday, September 16th with the lineup including a new Fort Dodge
country music project called Renegade Soul as direct support and Fort Dodge’s Jesse
Wilson Band as the opening act. “This will be a good one, said Shellabration Director, Gerri
Dunn. Josh Turner’s deep list of hits and signature deep vocals will make for one heck of a
concert.” Fellow Shellabration Director, Melissa Hansen, agreed. “Our goal is always to
raise the bar each year with our DCJ. Having achieved a record 3,851 last year for Big &
Rich, we think this could be the year we break 4,000 in attendance,” added Hansen.
Josh Turner’s country music career has spanned 20 plus years with the artist first debuting
on the Grand Ole Opry stage singing “Long Black Train” on December 21, 2001. With his
deep bass voice, over the years Turner has sold more than six and a half million records,
reached 4.8 billion global streams, and has become a favorite and unforgettable hitmaker
on country radio. He would release his first album “Long Black Train” in 2003 featuring that
title track as well as “She’ll Go on You” and “Backwoods Boy”. In 2006 he would release his
second album entitled, “Your Man”. That title track would be his first #1 single. The second
release from that album, “Would You Go with Me” would also reach the top of the country
charts. That song also crossed over, reaching #48 on Billboard’s Hot 100 Chart. A third
single from the album, “Me and God” would reach #16 on the country chart. His Top-10 hits
numbered seven also including “Firecracker”, “Why Don’t We Just Dance”, “All Over Me”,
“Time is Love” and “Hometown Girl”. His extensive recording career charted the additional
hits “What it Ain’t”, “Another Try” (which featured Trisha Yearwood), “Everything is Fine”, “I
Wouldn’t Be a Man”, “Find Me a Baby” and “All About You”.
Downtown Country Jam 2023 will also include two acts that call Fort Dodge home. Jesse
Wilson & Friends will kick off the show at 5:30PM. Wilson plays a combination of cover and
original music including tunes he’s written that weave in references to the greater Fort
Dodge region. His style includes country with a touch of rock and a hint of hip-hop. He was
recently nominated for the Midwest Country Music Organization’s Maverick Award 2022.
Direct support for the event will be a brand-new local country music project entitled
Renegade Soul. The band features seasoned, veteran musicians from Fort Dodge and
surrounding region. The group includes Founder, Trent Salter (Lead, Backing Vocals, Lead
Guitar) and fellow Salty View Acoustic Review team members Claudia Rhiner (Lead,
Backing Vocals, Fiddle, Guitar) and Jared Benson (Lead, Backing Vocals, Rhythm Guitar).
Rounding out the lineup are Andy Shelly (Drums, Percussion) from Saucy Jack and Alex
Trevino (Bass, Backing Vocals) who also plays with The Tank Anthony Band , Lone Tree
Revival and acoustic shows with fellow Tank Anthony team member Jeffery Fosbender.
