6-17 Area Softball/Baseball Report: Elsbecker Lifts FD Baseball, FD Softball Wins 11th Straight, St. Edmond Gets Sweep In Iowa Falls

Wednesday night was a wild night on the diamond in many ways for area teams. One area baseball team capped off a feverish comeback with late game heroics. An area Softball edged one out on the road to stay hot. Another team ran through a rival in two games, like a hot knife through butter, and an area baseball team got another gem from an emerging pitcher.

Fort Dodge Baseball ended up getting a win, battling back against Marshalltown. The Bobcats opened with 5 in the 1st they led 7-0 in the 4th. dodgers got one in the 4th. FD rallied for 6 in the 5th to tie it. Jace Ulrich had a two run blast in the 5th. Tied at 7-7 after 5, both teams scored two in the 6th. In the 7th, Marshalltown got one. Fort Dodge answered with one and could’ve won the game but Jace Ulrich couldn’t beat the tag at the plate. The game went to extra innings. Sawyer Springer came on to pitch in the 7th, he retired M’town in order in the 8th. Springer would get the win, thanks to some late game heroics from Eli Elsbecker.

Eli Elsbecker with a 2 run walk off homer, he hit for the cycle going 5 for 5 and he drove in five. Dalton Rosalez with two hits and two RBI’s.

Game two was called in the 2nd off after an hour’s worth of lightening delays. The Dodgers led 12-0 in the 2nd inning and was still hitting when the game was called. Carson Peterson homered in both his at bats in game two, a 2 run homer in the 1st and a grand slam in the 2nd.

Fort Dodge Softball had no issue with Marshalltown, they cruised 13-0 and 12-0. TK Doster homered twice and drove in four. Doster moved into 2nd on the career home runs list for Dodger Softball. Jalen Adams got the win in game one throwing 3 innings of shutout ball. That’s now 25 straight scoreless innings for Adams. At the plate, she had 5 hits on the night including a homer and she drove in five. Lucy Porter got the win in game two, she threw 3 innings of no hit ball. Tory Bennett had 3 hits, 3 RBI’s and scored twice in the night cap. Dodgers are red hot, they’ve won 11 straight and 14 of their last 15.

St. Edmond softball continued their winning ways as they edged out a road win over Iowa Falls- Alden 5-4. Kaili Henning and Ansley Oswald had two hits each, Oswald also drove in a run. Gracie Harvey and Payton Bradley drove in a run each. Ella Vratny the win in the circle, she allowed 3 runs while striking out 10.

St. Edmond Baseball got a solid 6-1 road win. Tyler Mcdowell continues to emerge on the hill, as he got went the distance allowing just one run. Grant Heldorfer has been knocking the cover off the ball of late, he had 3 hits and drove in two. Freshman Hayden Derrig had 3 hits and Joe Li had two. Gaels got offense late to take control, as they scored 5 runs in the 5th and 6th innings combined.
