The honor that comes along with the title of serving our nation as a Marine is one that is universal. But many people have no idea what it actually takes to become a Marine.

This week Alpha Media News will go to basic training in San Diego for an accelerated look behind what it takes to get through Marine boot camp. Interviews will be posted on Alpha Media News Fort Dodge on Facebook and online at YourFortDodge.com as Alpha Media News follows midwest educators and counselors go through the process that takes a civilian from day one training through graduation.

Day 1:
For one week, educators from across the Midwest will experience a small taste of what it takes to go through Marine boot camp. Here’s a taste of Day One.

Today, these recruits will become United States Marines. They just completed the Crucible, a 54 hour training event that combines everything recruits have been learning in boot camp. Through mental strength physical endurance and teamwork they all dug deep in order to get to this moment together where they will receive their Eagle, Globe and Anchor and become a Marine. Educators from the Midwest are here to witness this once in a lifetime event for these new Marines.

79 years ago, Marines were two days into the Battle of Iwo Jima a battle that would end March 26th, 1945. Millions of people visit the memorial in Washington D.C. to honor those who served so long ago.
Today, these new Marines were reminded of the legacy they are serving as they finished the Crucible and were awarded their new title.

Final Thoughts:
News Director Brooke Bickford here with a personal note from the previous week’s coverage of Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego:
“There’s no way I can actually go through what it takes to become a Marine, but this past week I got a taste of it and learned a lot about the honor, discipline and legacy that these people in uniform are representing. I’ve shared a bunch of videos throughout the week as I entered sites like Camp Pendleton, Bravo Range and Air Station Miramar. I have always had pride for those in uniform, but what I have added after this week is a restored faith in those 18, 19+ year olds many people assume don’t. Because I saw hundreds of them in uniform that did. I was there to follow an educator’s workshop and saw many of those teachers, coaches and advisors, rise to the challenges put in front of them and leave with knowledge about this branch of the military to pass onto students who may want to know what the military choice holds for them.
