Alpha Media Sports Announces Broadcast Schedule For Baseball & Softball Season.
This summer, Alpha Media Sports will present coverage of Fort Dodge Baseball, Fort Dodge Softball, St. Edmond Baseball and Softball. Coverage begins Monday May 24th with the 2020 State Runner Ups Fort Dodge Softball in doubleheader action. Dodger Softball hosts Johnston for a twin-bill at rogers Park with 1st pitch scheduled at 5 PM. All regular season games will air on “Sunny” 99.7 and here on our website. This season Alpha Media Sports is expanding their coverage in terms of number of games being broadcasted.
Fort Dodge Softball made history last year, as they played for the State Title for the 1st time in program history. They return almost everybody from last year’s team with the exception of All State performer Loghen Schnetzer. The Dodgers bring back two candidates for the Gatorade State Player Of The Year Award in Pitcher Jalen Adams and Catcher TK Doster. Doster is a Senior who has signed with Iowa and Adams is a Junior who has verbally committed to Iowa. The left side of the infield is back after tremendous seasons in 2020. Haley Wills will be holding down Third Base and will be called upon to pitch some as well. Junior Tory Bennett is back at Short Stop. Martyne Lowery who played 2nd Base last season, provided heroics late in the State Semifinal win over Ankeny Centennial last year. She’s slated to be back. The outfield returns and is anchored by Senior CF Sophia Klinger who recently signed to play at Iowa Central next year. The new expected addition to the regular line up will be 8th Grader Mariah Myers at 1st Base, she is expected to fill the vacancy left by Schnetzer. While the void is a tremendous one, when you lose the leader in RBI’s in Iowa and the all time home run leader in program history, Myers has veterans around her to help her along the way. Myers has been performing at a high level for sometime on the travel circuit and is known to hit for power.
Fort Dodge Baseball will again be under the direction of Coach Blake Utley. The Dodgers will be replacing key pieces from last year like notables Mason Bockoven, Brycen Bell and a few others. They are expected to have the services of Senior Christian Davidson. He was an All State Pitcher at Pocahontas Area who transferred to FDSH for this academic year. Davidson is currently running track for Fort Dodge Senior High. The Dodgers also are expected to return contributors such as Tyler Schreier who had a tremendous year in CF last season. Also expected key returnees include Dylan Zimmerman, Eli Elsbecker, Jace Ulrich, Carson Peterson, Sawyer Springer and Drake Callon , among others. In 2020, Fort Dodge won a playoff game downing Ames and also had a regular season when over then #1 Urbandale.
St. Edmond Baseball had the tough luck of being shutdown for 2 weeks due to Covid-19 protocol last season. The Gaels were hot at the time and had their momentum halted. They did return after the 2 week hiatus and win a playoff game. They were bounced from the playoffs after a hard fought loss at Ogden. The Gaels expect to return their outstanding 1,2 punch on the hill of Cael Kolacia and Peyton Scott. Other expected returners for St. Edmond include Catcher Jon Nemmers, Grant Heldorfer, Drew Szalat and others.
St. Edmond Softball came on strong late in the season. The Gaels finished just one game away from making the State Tournament falling in a high drama affair at Western Christian last season. Ella Vratny was the workhorse in the circle and she’s expected back this season. Senior Kacey Kruthoff is back behind the plate for St. Edmond and will be counted to provide leadership. Young players like Gracie Harvey, Grace Nueberger, Anna Kolacia and others, had solid seasons in 2020 progressing throughout the year. They will be back in the mix and expected to build off of last season’s momentum.
This year Rob Jones will once again handle the Play-By-Play for Dodger Softball and Baseball. Brian Peters will call the action for St. Edmond. A newcomer to the crew, Hank Ambrose will be joining Rob Jones on select dates during the season.
