Another Incident Reported At Anamosa State Prison

A state correctional facility continues to have issues with inmates. Multiple incidents have been reported in the last few months at Anamosa State Prison.

The latest incident happened last Friday around 2:30 PM. The Iowa Dept. Of Corrections says, a corrections officer was assaulted by an inmate. The report says an inmate punched an officer, the officer then deployed pepper spray and other staff members intervened to help subdue the inmate.

That issue came just over a month after another assault in June. That occurred after an inmate became violent during a disciplinary  hearing. In May, an explosive substance was found in a cell of an inmate.

In March, the worst of the incidents occurred when two Anamosa staff members were killed during an escape attempt. Allegedly,  two inmates Michael Dutcher and Thomas Woodward killed Officer Robert Mcfarland and Nurse Lorena Schulte. The DOC says, Mcfarland and Schlute were beaten to death with a hammer as the two inmates were trying to flee the facility.
