Area Baseball/Softball Report 6-24: Dodger Softball Sweeps, Gael Softball Splits, Gael Baseball Gets Walk Off Win, Dodger Baseball Swept

In games heard Wednesday evening on “Sunny” 99.7 and yourfortdodge.com , Fort Dodge Softball cruised to a double header sweep of #11 Ankeny. The Dodgers took game one, 14-0 in 4 innings and game two 15-5 in 5 innings. In game one, Fort Dodge got 1 in the 2nd inning. They broke it open with a 9 spot in the 3rd including this blast.

TK Doster with a 3 run homer, her 7th of the season. The Dodgers needed two runs to end it in the 4th, they would get four. Sophia Klinger led off with a double and then scored. Haley Wills singled, Jalen Adams had an RBI single to make it 11-0. Then Tory Bennett would come up with a chance to finish it.

A walk-off 3 run homer for Bennett, her 1st of the season. Jalen Adams got her 15th win of the season in the circle. Adams threw 4 innings of shutout ball, allowing two hits while striking out five. Mariah Myers had three hits.

In game two, Ankeny would strike first with a 2 run homer in the top of the 1st. Fort Dodge answered with 3 runs to take the lead. They added two in the 2nd and had a big inning in the 3rd plating 6. They added a run in the 4th to lead 12-2 after 4. Ankeny responded though, scoring 3 in the 5th to cut it to 12-5. The Dodgers needed three to end it early. Tory Bennett led off the inning with a single, TK Doster singled after a Myers ground out. Martyne Lowrey then walked. Chloe Wertz singled to score both Bennett and Doster. Then Sophia Klinger came up.

A walk off single for Klinger, one of her three hits in the night cap. The Dodgers pounded out 17 total hits, every player in the game two line up had at least one hit. Doster drove in three, had three hits and scored twice. Tory Bennett, Mariah Myers, Maia Davis, Chloe Wertz and Haley Wills all had two hits each in the 2nd game. Dodgers take the season seriesa vs Ankeny four games to none.

St. Edmond Softball split a pair of games on Wednesday. They had to go to Humboldt first to resume a game that was postponed Tuesday due to rain. They dropped the game at Humboldt 10-9. They bounced back to beat Clarion-Goldfield-Dows at Rogers Park , 10-0 in 5 innings. Ella Vratny got the win in the circle, throwing a one hit shutout. Kaili Henning and Lauren Gibb both had two hits and two RBI’s each. Anna Kolacia drove in two as well. The Gaels are 14-2 in their last 16 games.

St. Edmond Baseball got a win on Wednesday night, thank to some late game heroics. Gaels got a 7-6 win over Clarion-Goldfield-Dows when Peyton Scott drove in Grant Heldorfer for the game winner in the bottom of the 7th. Cael Kolacia is back in the line up after missing 3 weeks with an injury. He got the win in relief striking out five along the way. Peyton Scott had two hits and the game winning RBI. Grant Heldorfer had three hits, three stolen bases and scored 4 times. Jon Nemmers had two hits and drove in three. Gaels bounced back after losing two- one run heart breakers earlier this week.

Fort Dodge Baseball dropped both games of the Wednesday home twin bill to a ranked Ankeny squad. The Dodgers led 6-5 after 4 innings. However, Ankeny outscored them 14 to 2 over the final three innings to win 19-8. Christian Davidson, Jace Ulrich and Connor Carver had two hits each in game one, Ulrich drove in four. In game two, it was the Brody Brecht show. Ankeny won 9-0 and Brecht displayed exactly why he will be taken in July’s MLB draft. Brecht allowed just one hit and struck out 14. Nearly a dozen, MLB scouts were on hand at Mcneil Field, as Brecht hit as high as 98 MPH on the radar gun. Christian Davidson got the only Fort Dodge hit off of Brecht. Dodgers are slated to be back at it on Thursday at DM-Roosevelt.
