Area Football Report Week 2: Clayton Fuels Dodger W, Gaels Cruise, Titans Pull Way Late
High School Football in the area has hit the ground running in the early part of the season. Week 2 saw the 3 teams covered on the Alpha Media Fort Dodge stations move to a collective 6-0 on the season. On “92 Rock” The Fort Dodge Dodgers were a winner 36-20 over Sioux City East. It was the first win over SC East for Fort Dodge since 1998. Dodger RB Dayson Clayton had a record setting night as he ran for a new single game school record 354 yards. The Dodgers never trailed after a long TD drive on their 1st possession of the game. SC East would hang tough and trailed 30-20 in the 4th, when the Dodgers shut the door.
Clayton with one of his 4 rushing TD’s on the night, he also had a 27 yard TD catch. Dodger Safety Sam Daniel with 2 interceptions in the game. Dodger defense much improved from week 1 allowing just 211 total yards of offense. Dodgers are 2-0 they host Ankeny on Friday Sept. 11th.
Second ranked South Central Calhoun was impressive in their week win 34-7 at Green County. The Titans led 14-7 at half and would outscore Greene County 20-0 after the break. SCC QB Cole Corey two rushing scores and one passing. RB Blake Mcalister had 162 yards rushing, one TD run and one TD catch. SCC’s defense Titans are 2-0 and host Clarion-Goldfield-Dows in week 3.
St. Edmond moved to 2-0 on the young season after a 30-8 win over Clarion-Goldfield-Dows in week 2. Gaels QB Drew Schaeffer set a single game school record for passing yards with 339 and had 3 TD passes. What made that feat that much more impressive as he set that record in less than 3 quarters of the game as the Gaels didn’t throw it late in the 2nd half. Anthony Lacina had 2 TD catches in the game both were long pass plays. Kase Baker with a rushing TD and a TD catch. Gaels take on North Union at Dodger Stadium on Thursday Sept. 10th at 7 PM.
