Area HS Teams Look To Make Strides In Week 2 Friday Night

Teams from around North Central Iowa will take the field under the lights Friday night for week 2  of the 2021 season. Regardless of the outcome in week 1, area teams will look to make strides of improvement. Week 2 features another rivalry game for Fort Dodge, an 8 man encore opportunity for St. Edmond and the Twin Lakes Conference opener for South Central Calhoun. Other area teams are in action, one area program hitting on all cylinders takes on a traditional power, another squad looks to make strides in the the process of “rebuilding tradition together”, one looks to avoid a let down after a statement win, and another looks to bounce back after a rare season opening loss.

Fort Dodge is at Ames in week 2. The Dodgers controlled the line of scrimmage in the 2nd half of their season opening win vs Mason City. The Dodgers take on another traditional rival in week. The Dodgers have owned the series in the last decade. Fort Dodge has won 5 consecutive meetings and are 8-2 in the last 10. However, Dodger Coach Nik Moser says none of that will impact the outcome tonight. The game will air on 92.1 and here on our website, starting with pregame coverage at 6:45 PM. Tonight will mark the final game for Dodger Play-By-Play Voice Rob Jones, who is leaving Iowa to take a similar position back home in South Carolina.

South Central Calhoun handled their business in week one, it was trademark Titan establish the run, create turnovers and capitalize on opportunities. SCC is at Pocahontas Area tonight. Titan Head Coach Brian Case knows that his team will be in a raucous environment and get the Indians best shot tonight. Mark Williamson and Brian Peters have the call of the game on 105-9 “The Beach” and here on our website, pregame show starts at 6:45 PM.

St. Edmond has their home opener as they welcome in West-Bend Mallard. The Gaels had a thrilling 62-56 win in OT vs Ar-We-Va in their inaugural game at the 8 man level. The Gaels racked up well over 500 yards of total offense in week 1, they look to continue that trend. Here’s St. Edmond Coach Matt Dillon on tonight’s match up.

Humboldt looks to avoid any sort of let down after a landmark win 35-7 on the road against a ranked Webster City team. QB Caden Matson was masterful in the opener going 15 of 16, throwing for 233 yards and 5 TD’s. Humbolt host Garner-Hayfield-Ventura in their home opener.

SE Valley extended their regular season win streak after a shutout win, 28-0 over I-35 last week. QB Kolson Kruse ran for 150 yards in week 1. The Jags look to continue their momentum at Emmetsburg tonight. SEV hasn’t lost a regular season game since 2019.
