Area Softball & Baseball Report 6-15: SE Softball Wins Thriller, FD Softball Rolls, Dodger and Gael Baseball Both Fall Monday Night
Monday night saw an area softball team win a thrilling slugfest, another area team roll in a rivalry twin-bill, an area baseball team drop both games of a double dip, and another one fall to an opponent who is sizzling hot.
St. Edmond Softball got a win in a thriller over North Central Conference rival Humboldt in a slugfest.
Brian Peters on the final call, as Josie Harvey’s walk drove in the winning run. St. Edmond took the win 20-19 after an incredible late rally. The game was a high drama affair and was tied at 10 going into the 7th. Humboldt platted 9 in the top half of the frame, St. Edmond rallied to score 10 in the bottom half to win it.
For St. Edmond, Lauren Gibb had two hits including her 1st career home run, she drove in two and scored twice. Ansley Oswald had three hits and three RBI’s, Alyson Nieland had three hits and drove in two. Humboldt 8th grader, Elsie Hubbell had three hits and drive in 6. Jori Hajek scored four times and stole three bases, Addie Thompson with three runs and five RBI’s.
Gaels have now won 10 of their last 11.
2nd ranked Fort Dodge Softball rolled past rival Mason City in a road double header. Dodgers were dominant taking the opener 14-0 and the nightcap 15-0. All State Catcher, TK Doster had a home rin in each of the two games. 8th grade phenom, Mariah Myers homered and drove in five in the two games. She now is hitting .500 and has driven in 29 runs, which is tied for 16th in all of Iowa.
Senior LF Chloe Wetz stayed hot at the plate driving in five, as did RF Maia Davis who had 4 hits in the two games. 3B Haley Wills, has started to come around offensively as well, she had 4 hits in the twin bill.
Jalen Adams the win in the circle in game one, she threw 3 innings of no hit ball. Adams also had a two run homer at the plate. 8th grader, Lucy Porter got the win in game two moving to 5-0 in the circle on the season. Dodgers have won 9 straight and 12 of their last 13.
Fort Dodge Baseball dropped both games of the road double header at Mason City. Mohawks took game one 14-6 and game two 11-5. The Dodgers took a 6-5 lead after a 4 run fourth inning in game one. Mason City answered reeling off 9 unanswered in the fourth and fifth innings. Connor Carver had a 2 run single for Fort Dodge in game one. Drake Callon, Christian Davidson and Carson Peterson all drove in a run. In game two, Fort Dodge took a 5-1 lead in the top of the 4th. However, Mason City would get 9 in the 4th and 5th combined to go to win it. Davidson drove in two and scored once, Jake Wagner drove in two. Dodgers host Marshalltown Wednesday for a double header. Both games will air on “Sunny” 99.7 and our website starting with a 5 Pm 1st pitch.
St. Edmond Baseball ran into a buzzsaw against a red hot Humboldt squad. The Wildcats took their 8th straight with a 10-2 win. Gaels did get a couple runs late, Jon Nemmers and Devon Wirtz drove in runs. An 8 run inning in the third was the difference for Humboldt. Gaels host North Union on Tuesday night.
Southeast Valley got a sweep over Pocahontas Area in both baseball and softball. SE Valley baseball won 2-0, Sam hanson struck out 10 to on his way to the win on the hill. a He also doubled and drove in a run. Southeast Valley Softball won 7-4. Jags led 4-3 after three, they would get two in two in fourth and one in the 5th to seal the win.
