Area Softball/Baseball Report From the Weekend

The 1st full week of baseball/softball season is in the books and has been a “whirlwind” schedule for many area teams. #1 Fort Dodge Softball capped off a 9 game 1st week by going 3-0 at their home invitational Saturday. The Dodgers beat Class 1A’s #2 team Newell-Fonda 6-1, they then defeated Class 4A’s 10th ranked team Winterset 7-1 and capped the day with a 12-0 win over Harlan in 6 innings. Dodgers sitting at 8-1 with a road tilt scheduled for 5 Pm Monday at Ottumwa. Southeast Valley Softball went 1-2 in an invitational at Martensdale-St. Mary’s. Jags lost to Class 1A’s #1 team Collins-Maxwell 11-0, they then beat AHSTW 8-3 and fell to Martensdale- St. Mary’s 10-9.

Monday’s schedule has Fort Dodge Baseball at Ottumwa for a double header , 1st pitch for game one is scheduled for 5 PM. St. Edmond Softball is at unbeaten 10th ranked Algona. In baseball, Algona is scheduled to take on unbeaten St. Edmond. Algona Coach Chad Slagle says he is expecting a battle with the Gaels.

That game a 7:30 PM scheduled 1st pitch at Harlan Rogers.
