Area Softball/Baseball Report From Wednesday Night

Wednesday Night was one loaded with games for area teams. Wednesday saw heroics that led to a dramatic victory, a pair of powerhouse programs split a double header and much more around the area.

St. Edmond baseball moved to 3-0 on the year scoring in the bottom of the 7th to edge Iowa Falls-Alden 2-1. Drew Szalat provided the late game heroics while Peyton Scott struck out 17 allowing just one run. Webster City edged Algona baseball 7-6. Algona led 6-4 in the bottom of the 7th but a late 3 run rally earned Webster City the win.

The #1 ranked Fort Dodge Softball team split a double header on the raod with #3 Johnston. The Dodgers took game one 7-2. T.K. Doster 2 for 4 with a home run and Haley Wills with 4 hits in game one. Jalen Adams went the distance in the circle in game one striking out 9 while scattering 5 hits. In game two, the Dodgers led 300 in the 6th inning but couldn’t hold the lead. Johnston scored 5 in the final two frames to win the night cap game 5-3. Fort Dodge hosts Estherville-Lincoln Central Thursday at 3:30. Fort Dodge Baseball was swept at home in the season opening double header against Johnston. Dodgers fell 5-1 in the 1st game and 12-1 in the 2nd. Johnston came ranked #6 in the state after a runner up finish in the state last year. Dodgers are on the road Friday for a double header against #1 Urbandale.

St. Edmond Softball fell at home 13-8 to Iowa Falls-Alden. Gaels Senior Jocy Timmerman was 4 for 4 from the plate with 4 RBI’s.  Southeast Valley Softball with a win over East Sac County 7-3, 1st year Head Coach has the Jags out to a 2-0 start. Manson NW Webster baseball won in an offensive slug fest 16-13 over Emmetsburg. Cougars are 2-0 to start the season after beating West Bend-Mallard Monday. Manson NW Webster Softball fell 12-2 to Emmetsburg to even their record to 1-1 after beating West Bend-Mallard Monday.

South Central Calhoun Softball a 17-4 winner over Pocahontas Area in their season opener. Pocahontas Area Baseball cruised 17-2 past South Central Calhoun. Pocahontas Area is 2-0 on the season and ranked #8 in Iowa. Algona Softball edged Webster City 2-0 , Algona is ranked #10 and is 3-0 on the season. Newell-Fonda Baseball no trouble with Storm Lake- St. Mary’s 15-0, Mustangs move to 2-0 on the season. Southeast Valley baseball was edged by East Sac County 9-7. Elsewhere around the area.

Bishop Garrigan cruised 12-0 over St. Ansgar

Hampton-Dumont-Cal 8-2 over Clarion-Goldfield-Dows

South Hamilton 7-1 over Greene County

Humboldt downed Clear Lake 11-0

Newell-Fonda cruised past Alta-Aurelia 12-0 (Tuesday)

GTRA edged West Bend-Mallard 9-8

South Hardin 12-6 over East Marshall

Hampton-Dumont-Cal in a slug fest 16-12 over Clarion-Goldfield-Dows

St. Ansgar nipped Bishop Garrigan 7-6
