Area Wrestlers With Impressive Performances At Girls State Tournament
Several area wrestlers had tremendous showings at the 2021 Iowa Girls State Wrestling Tournament over the weekend in Coralville. Fort Dodge Sophomore Alexis Ross made the final and was edged by two time State Finalist Annika Behrends. Ross dropped a highly competitive match by decision 7-5. Ross went 4-1 overall st State and finished as State Runner Up. Humboldt’s Kendal Clark who was looking for back-to-back State Titles, fell in the finals at 170 taking home silver. Her teammate Maria Elizando took home bronze at 160. St. Edmond’s Elly Berry finished 2-2 after winning her first two matches to qualify for the State Quarterfinals. East Sac County’s Kiersten Carroll won 5 matches in the tournament food for an 8th place finish at 113.
