Wednesday was a incredibly busy night on the diamond for area baseball and softball teams. St. Edmond Softball got a big win in come back fashion, complete with late game clutch plays. Fort Dodge Baseball dropped a heart breaker, but enjoyed an experience most high school players don’t get. St. Edmond baseball fell to an Algona team that has been solid thus far and returned much of last year’s core.

St. Edmond got on the board with an RBI double from Alyson Nieland. Ella Vratny then scored to tie the game at 2-2 in the 7th. In the 9th, St. Edmond got what would prove to be the game winning run when Haley Oswald doubled and then scored. Gaels are now 2-3 on the season.

Fort Dodge Baseball had an experience that is something special for a high school program. The Dodgers went to Principal Park in Des Moines to take on Southeast Polk. The park is home to the State Baseball Tournament and Fort Dodge hopes to make a run to get back there later this season. However, this trip they fell in a heart breaker 4-3. Fort Dodge got three in the 1st to take an early lead but were held scoreless the rest of the way. SE Polk got one in the 3rd and two in the 5th to tie it. They would get the go ahead run in the 6th. Dodgers host Sioux City North Friday in a double header, you can hear both of those games starting at 5 PM on “Sunny” 99.7 and here on our website.
