Black History Event Planned for Saturday in Fort Dodge
This Saturday will be a time for celebration, togetherness and education during a big Black History event in Fort Dodge.
It’s an event organized by Charles Clayton, the founder of Athletics for Education and Success, along with Stacey Silliman-Jones, Jonathan Roberts and volunteers and staff members at AFES.
Clayton says the theme this year is on the Harlem Renaissance, a time of explosive talents in music, art, writing and overall creative genius.
The Black History Month program will begin at 9am at the AFES center with a free will donation breakfast, followed by a presentation of African American heroes presented by young people, speakers, music and trivia.
Clayton says they are hoping to see 30 to 50 3rd through 8th grade students who have been invited to attend a youth of color conference that will focus on the importance of black history.
