Cedar Valley Based Group Wants Name Of Columbus Catholic School In Waterloo Changed

A group has formed in the Cedar Valley are of Iowa with the intent of having the name of the school changed. The group wants the name Christopher Columbus removed from Columbus Catholic School in Waterloo. John McCoy is a member of that group.

McCoy says that as they began to research the voyages of Columbus to the “new world” troubling information continued to surface.

The group presented its case to the Cedar Valley Catholic School Board and Archdiocese Of Dubuque to no avail.

McCoy says now since their requests have been denied, the group is looking to raise awareness of the issue. The group says it isn’t trying to dictate what the new name would be, but rather their interest is solely on removing the name of Columbus from the school.
