City Council Says Yes, Halter Says No To Proposed Housing Development

The Fort Dodge City Council met Wednesday Evening after severe weather and power outages Monday forced the meeting to be rescheduled. There was a proposal made for a housing development at the Fort Dodge Country Club. The proposal would call for the city to reimburse the developers for some of the costs related to the development. The plan would call for the City Of Fort Dodge to use tax increment funding for over a decade to pay the costs of reimbursement. While most of the City Council was on board with the proposal Councilman At-Large Jeff Halter was adamantly opposed.

Halter’s opposition to the proposal was met with resistance by Councilman Kim Alstott leading to this exchange on the topic.

The Fort Dodge City Council did vote to approve moving forward in the negotiations with developers. Halter was the lone vote against the proposal.
