City of Fort Dodge Fights Disruptive Behavior with Ordinance Expansion

At the root of a homeless epidemic is a danger to business and the public and the city of Fort Dodge plans to vote on an ordinance tonight that will help clear up the language when it comes to what is appropriate behavior and what is not.

The Prohibited Public Acts Ordinance would include prohibiting loitering, aggressive solicitation, public urination and defecation and storage of personal property in public spaces.

Downtown Fort Dodge has seen an expansion of unauthorized habitation and this is expanding throughout the community.

According to the details on tonight’s agenda, city staff have received input from local businesses and organizations regarding behavior of individuals that are concerning to the owners and customers of businesses.

The first reading of this ordinance is planned for tonight and further readings may be waived in order to pass it as soon as possible.
