Area baseball teams in class 1 and 2 A now know their playoff assignments. The preliminary round in 1A will start this week with the schedule going full swing starting Saturday July 10th.
St. Edmond will take on Harris-Lake Park in their playoff opener. Gaels Coach Mike Szalat has talked about how he likes the direction his club has been moving in down the stretch. The Gaels will wrap the regular season with Iowa Falls-Alden on Monday July 5th. A 7:30 PM 1st pitch scheduled in that one on “Sunny” 99.7 and here on our website. The St. Edmond vs Harris-Lake Park game will be Saturday July 10th at 5 PM. Bishop Garrigan is the host site in that pod. If St. Edmond wins on the 10th they would play July 13th at 7 PM at Garrigan, they would face either the host team or GTRA. The playoff game on the 10th will air on 99.7 and here on our website.
Newell-Fonda has had a tremendous year and was rewarded for their achievements will home field through the first three rounds. They host North Union on July 10th at 7 PM and if they advance would get West Hancock or West Bend-Mallard on July 13th at 7 PM. The 3rd round would be July 17th at Newell-Fonda.
In 2A, Manson NW Webster will take on Ridgeview July 10th at 5 PM. The winner will be at Pocahontas Area on Tues. July 13th. Pocahontas has a bye in the 1st round and will host the 2nd and 3rd rounds.
Southeast Valley is at ACGC to take on West Central Valley on July 10th at 5 PM. The winner will travel to take on Van Meter on July 13th.
South Central Calhoun is at ACGC on July 10th. The winner would meet Woodward-Granger at Van Meter on the 13th.
South Hardin plays Iowa Falls-Alden at Hudson on July 10th at 5 PM. The winner is at Roland-Story taking on the host team. on July 13th at 7 PM. Clarion-Goldfield Dows is at Hudson on the 10th for a 7 Pm 1st pitch. The winner of that one gets South Hamilton at Roland-Story on the 13th.
Roland-Story has a 23-5 record and they have home field in the 2nd and 3rd rounds, after a 1st round bye.
