Mike Szalat has been and is a staple on the “Hy-Vee Fort Dodge Coaches Corner” on “Sunny” 99.7. He unofficially holds the record for most appearances on the show, since its inception in 2019. Szalat’s St. Edmond Baseball program had a buzz surrounding coming into 2020. They delivered on that excitement and hype starting the season at 3-0. Then the program had to deal with covid-19 related issues and was on quarantine for 2 weeks. That probably derailed some of the momentum, but Coach Szalat rallied the troops and they won their playoff opener fresh off of quarantine. Coach Szalat joined Rob Jones to talk about last year and what he and his player learned in the playoff loss to Ogden in 2020. He also talked about this upcoming year, St. Edmond has almost all of its stellar pitching staff from last year. It would be hard pressed to find a team in North Central Iowa with a more talented pitching staff at the 1A level. The Gaels welcome back Cael Kolacia, Peyton Scott and Grant Heldorfer as well as others in the rotation. St. Edmond opens Thursday at Manson NW Webster, that game will air on “Sunny” 99.7 and here on our website.
