The 2020 regular season is now in the books and what an exciting and unconventional season it has been due to the pandemic. Week 7 on Friday had high stakes as area teams all came in looking to improve their standing before the playoff pairings were announced. Fort Dodge will is coming off a loss in week 7 to Dowling Catholic. The Dodgers are 3-4 they have a bye in the 1st round as only 8 teams in Iowa Class 4A are playing Oct. 16th. Fort Dodge will be on the road taking on (3-4) Waterloo West Oct. 23rd. That game will air on 92.1 FM and here on our website.
The South Central Calhoun Titans were back in action in week 7 after a bye week. They had no issues from the layoffs as they cruised past Belmond-Klemme 44-7. Titans out gained Belmond-Klemme 417 to 248 in total offense. SCC got big games from Blake Mcalister who had 3 TD’s and Brennan Holder who had 104 rushing yards and 2 TD’s. South Central Calhoun is 5-1 and has earned home field advantage through the first two rounds. They will host Sioux Central, Friday in the 1st round. St. Edmond had its most complete performance of 2020 as they routed Bishop Garrigan 62-14 at Dodger Stadium in week 7. It was the first win for St. Edmond over Bishop Garrigan since 2014. Gaels are 4-0 at Dodger Stadium and are averaging 46 points per in those games. Gaels got a big game from RB Kase Baker who had TD runs of 50 and 64 yards in the 1st quarter and would take the opening kick of the 2nd half 80 yards for a score as well. QB Drew Schaeffer accounted for 5 total TD, 3 passing and 2 rushing. Parker Oswald had TD catch and a pick 6, Anthony Lacina had a long TD catch as well. While the offense was clicking the defense which had struggled against the run all year had its best performance in containing the running game and negating the Garrigan size advantage upfront. Coach Matt Dillon appeared on the “Hy-Vee Fort Dodge Coaches Corner” on 99.7 Saturday Morning and talked about the adjustments to the run defense.

Southeast Valley was a winner in week 7 outlasting Pocahontas Area 26-20. The Jags got a late TD run from Kolson Kruse and Kaleb Scott interception to take the win. With that win Southeast Valley moved to 7-0 and won the District Title. Coach Mike Swieter joined Rob Jones on the “Coaches Corner” Saturday Morning here’s his post game reaction.
