Dodger Boys To Honor Coach Williams During Ankeny Game

The Fort Dodge boys basketball team will honor assistant coach Willie Williams with a patch on their warm-ups that says “WW” when they take the floor at Ankeny Friday night. Williams is hospitalized in Des Moines after having emergency surgery on Wednesday. It is very visible in covering the team, the great respect the players have for Williams and their is clearly a bond between him and the players.

The Dodgers will look to upset Ankeny who comes in with a record of 16-5 on the season and is coming off a blowout win over Mason City on February 21st. Fort Dodge knocked off Sioux City West on Monday 65-60 in what has been to this point their most complete performance of the season. The final few minutes of Monday’s win was a clinic on how to close out a game. The Dodgers finished on a 9-0 run not allowing a single point in the final 2:15 of the game. Fort Dodge went 5 for 5 from the free throw line in the final 90 seconds and didn’t turn it over in the final 2 and 1/2 minutes. Ty Kershaw led the Dodgers with a ‘double-double” 21 points and 10 boards, Fort Dodge is now 3-1 on the year when Kershaw goes for 20 or more. Dayson Clayton had 14 in the win and Sophomore Monterius “Monty” Abrams-Altman was clutch scoring all 9 of his points in the stretch run.

The Dodgers will have to limit the Ankeny’s 3 guard offensive attack to win Friday’s game. Ankeny’s Braxton Bayless, Jaxon Smith and Jordan Kumm average a combined 47 points which equates to 71% of their total points. Bayless comes in averaging 22.6 per game which puts him in the top 20 in Iowa in individual scoring and 3rd in the CIML. Smith is averaging 14.6 per and had a game high 17 in the 57-43 win over Fort Dodge on December 6th. Ankeny guard Jordan Kumm had 15 in that win and averages right at 10 per game.

Can the Dodgers put the state on notice and pull what would be considered around the state one of the biggest upsets in the playoffs this year? Tune in tonight to find out, pregame show starts at 6:45 and tip off is 7 PM on “92 Rock” and will be available here on our website.
