Dodger Football Is Like A Hollywood Film
(Friday Oct. 25th Fort Dodge vs Marshalltown at Dodger Stadium. 6:45 PM pregame, 7 pm kick on 92.1 FM and here on our website)
The week 9 regular season finale for Fort Dodge Dodger football has a story behind that is better than a Hollywood movie. The Dodgers host Marshalltown on Friday Oct. 25th in a what is without question the biggest and most meaningful game of the 2019 season. Both teams are playing for their playoff lives as they both are trying to get in as “wildcard” teams. To earn a “wildcard” into the playoffs you have to finish in the top 16 in the RPI system the state has. Fort Dodge sits at 15th after 8 weeks and Marshalltown is 18th, so that means that this game has the hope of a season riding on it. The Dodgers season has been like a movie as well, coming out of the gate hot starting 4-0 ranked in the top 5, then hit some adversity lost 3 straight games, then got a win last week to set up this regular season finale showdown Friday. The Dodgers have to win to get in, sitting at 15th as long as they win it is very unlikely they would get jumped in the RPI and be left out. To add to the drama of the situation, Dodger Coach Matt Miller will become the all time wins leader in school history with his next win. Also in the story is a town in Fort Dodge that is a football town that let’s face it has had its on share of adversity lately, albeit in a different form. This version of the Dodgers can become only the 5th group in school history to make back to back playoff appearances. So let’s recap what we have on Friday night, a game in which the entire season’s work rides on, a game in which the hopes of an entire town rides on, an opportunity for a long time respected coach to write his name in football folklore. You add up all the factors and you have a story that couldn’t be written in Hollywood it’s one that can only be told right here in Fort Dodge.
