Dodger Softball Earns Double Header Sweep Of Centennial
In games heard on “Sunny” 99.7 and yourfortdodge.com on Monday, Fort Dodge Softball got a double header sweep. The Dodgers took a pair of one-run games from Ankeny Centennial, 1-0 in the opener and 3-2 in the night cap.
Game one was a pitcher’s duel between Jalen Adams and Centennial’s Sam Klug. The game was scoreless through 3 innings and while Adams was stellar, the defense behind her made plays.
CF Sophia Klinger with the spectacular catch to end the Centennial threat and save a run. In the 4th, Fort Dodge would breakthrough when Tory Bennett led off with a single and Mariah Myers would come up.
The 8th grade phenom goes opposite field for an RBI double. She had two hits in the game. The lone run would be all Fort Dodge would need. Jalen Adams would go the distance, throwing a shutout scattering 6 hits and striking out 6.
In game two, 8th grader Lucy Porter would get the start in the circle. In the 3rd, Haley Wills drew a one out walk, Jalen Adams singled and then Tory Bennett would come through with a timely piece of hitting.
Wills scores on the Bennett RBI single to put Fort Dodge on the board. A Mariah Myers Sac Fly scored Adams from 3rd and Bennett came around from 2nd to score. The Dodgers pushed 3 across and led 3-0. Centennial would one get int he 4th and one in the 5th. However, Fort Dodge would close the door from there. Lucy Porter the win in the circle, she worked 4 innings and gave up one run on three hits. Lydia Lara worked the 5th and 6th surrendering just one run. Jalen Adams came on in the 7th and got the save.
Dodgers take the season series three games to one over Centennial. Fort Dodge is now 22-4 on the season, with 13 of those wins and all four losses coming against ranked opponents.
