Dodgers Outlast Indianola For Homecoming Win

It was an absolute battle for Fort Dodge in their homecoming game against Indianola, but in the end the Dodgers came away with a 28-21 win in overtime. Indianola set the tone  and established the tempo of the game using a “ground and pound” style running game. The Indians had a tremendous size advantage with their massive offensive line and were led by Sophomore Running Back Kael Kolarik who is the focal point of the offense. Kolarik scored all 3 Indian touchdowns on the night. Both teams scored on their opening possessions of the game as Dodger QB Asle Thorson found Nick Bice for a 37 yard TD pass. Indianola went up 14-7 on Kolarik’s 2nd rushing TD of the night in the 2nd quarter. Indianola would drive again leading 14-7 in the 2nd and would try to go up 17-7 on a field goal attempt from within 30 yards. Dodger LB shane Halligan would block the FG attempt and Dodger DB Jerry Chada would recover it around the Dodger 40. That sparked life into the Dodger team and homecoming crowd. The Dodgers would score on the ensuing possession when Asle Thorson would break a 32 yard TD run as the game went to halftime tied at 14. The Indians would score on the opening possession of the 3rd Quarter to go up 21-14, The Dodgers would recover a fumble in the 4th and Dodger RB Dayson Clayton would score to tie it at 21. Clayton had 102 yards on 18 carries and a TD on the night. The teams traded punts until the end of the 4th. in Overtime Asle Thorson would find Tyson Kershaw for a 10 yard TD pass to go up 28-21, Thorson accounted for 3 total TD’s on the night. Indianola would get the ball on the 10 in their OT possession and have a costly penalty that would move them back to the 15. The Indians had a receiver open breaking toward the end zone but couldn’t hook up. The ball was on the 6 yard line for the 4th and goal play, The Indians would run it straight ahead with Kolarik and the Dodger defense would stop him inches shy of the goal line to win the game 28-21.
