An Emmet County man will spend the next 3 plus years behind bars after defrauding the U.S. government. 57 year old, Donald Franklin Trosin of Armstrong has been sentenced on charged of fraud and money laundering.

Court records say, Trosin defrauded the government for over a million dollars. He was convicted of falsely obtaining and laundering money from the Pay Check Protection Program and Cares Act funding.

Prosectuors say, Trosin submitted over 20 applications to the Small Business Administration. He those applications, he claimed to have over 100 employees and payroll expenses of over 5 million dollars. However, he in fact did not have a business at the time.

Trosin has been sentenced to 40 months in federal prison and ordered to pay restitution costs of over 1 million dollars.
