FDCSD Changing School Schedule Amid Rising Covid-19 Concerns In Area

Below is the release from the Fort Dodge School District regarding changes to the school schedule as a result of rising covid-19 concerns.

Dodger Families – as you are probably aware, the public health landscape has been changing rapidly in our community.  Due to this, all Fort Dodge Community Schools will be changing learning models beginning Wednesday, November 11.  In order for our staff to prepare for this change, there will not be school tomorrow, Tuesday, November 10, for all TK – 12 grade students.  Preschool classes will meet as normal tomorrow.  At Home students will continue their lessons in Edgenuity. We apologize in advance for the length of this communication, but wanted to pass along all the important information you will need.

Beginning Wednesday, November 11, we will be implementing our hybrid learning model for TK – 12 grade students.  Preschool will continue to meet as normal.  The hybrid schedule will be altered slightly from what was previously shared due to the end of the high school trimester next week.  If your child was absent today and does not have their school issued device with them, you will need to call the school directly to arrange a time to pick it up.  The schedule will be as follows:

Nov. 10: No School for TK-12 grade.  Preschool will have school.

Nov. 11 & 12: Group A will learn at school and Group B will learn virtually at home

Nov. 13 & 16: Group B will learn at school and Group A will learn virtually at home

Nov. 17: will be an intervention day where teachers will meet with students individually or in small groups as needed.  Families with students who need to participate will be communicated with directly from teachers.  If you do not hear from your child’s teacher your child will not need to attend this day.

Nov. 18 & 19: Group A will learn at school and Group B will learn virtually at home

Nov. 20 & 23: Group B will learn at school and Group A will learn virtually at home

Nov. 24: will be an intervention day where teachers will meet with students individually or in small groups as needed.  Families with students who need to participate will be communicated with directly from teachers.  If you do not hear from teachers your child will not need to attend this day.

Preschool: will meet at school following the regular schedule.

TK – 4 Grade: will follow the schedule outlined above.  Students learning virtually will meet with teachers via Google Meet.  TK – 2 will meet from 9-11:30 each virtual day and grades 3-4 will meet from 9-12 each virtual day.  These lessons will be recorded so students who are not able to attend during the morning (example: if they can not participate from daycare) can watch them later in the day.  The afternoons will be asynchronous learning with virtual students practicing skills on their own.  The activities will be posted on seesaw or google classroom. There will be small group instruction that takes place in the afternoons.  Teachers will communicate directly with families who have students who will be expected to participate in the small groups.  If you are unsure which group your student is in please see the attached document. Students who normally learn At Home will continue their lessons in Edgenuity.

Dodger Academy: will be available for students in the at school group who normally attend.  On intervention days and days there is no school there will not be Dodger Academy.

5-8 Grade: will follow the schedule outlined above. Students learning virtually will meet via Google Meet at the beginning of each scheduled period.  The link to each class’s Google Meet can be found on Google Classroom. Teachers will provide instruction as well as directions on where work to be completed can be found.  These lessons will be recorded so students who are not able to attend during the morning (example: if they can not participate from daycare) can watch them later in the day.  If you are unsure which group your student is in please see the attached document.  Students who normally learn At Home will continue their lessons in Edgenuity.

7-8 Athletics:  Practices will still occur with the exception of the Intervention days (Nov. 17 & 24).  Students learning at school should plan to attend.  Students learning virtually are encouraged to attend if possible.  Games will take place as scheduled.

9-12 Grade:  will follow the schedule outlined above.  The end of the trimester will be moved to Tuesday, November 24. Senior High students will learn independently on virtual learning days.  They should refer to each of their teacher’s Google classrooms for instructions and assignments.  They can email their teachers with questions.  They do not need to login to Google Meet at the beginning of each class period.  Homeroom and MTSS will not meet.  If you are unsure which group your student is in please call the high school office.   Students who normally learn At Home will continue their lessons in Edgenuity.

9-12 Athletics/Activities:  Practices will still occur and athletes will be expected to be in attendance. Games will take place as scheduled.

Internet Access: Families who do not have internet access at home and need a hotspot in order for their students to learn at home on virtual learning days can pick one up at the Central Office, 109 North 25th Street, beginning this afternoon.  The office is open from 8 – 4:30.

If Lunch Is Needed For Your Child: Families who want school lunch for their students on their virtual learning days need to complete this lunch reservation form by 7 a.m. Wednesday. If you want school lunch for your students, please ONLY mark the days when your student is in the virtual group.   TK- 8 grade lunches will need to be picked up from the north side of the middle school between 11 – 12:30. 9-12 grade students will need to pick up lunches using the cafeteria doors on the west side of the high school between 11-12:30.

We know this has been a year like no other, and we appreciate your continued patience and flexibility as we adjust to the everchanging public health landscape. FDCSD is planning to return to At School learning on Monday, November 30.
