(Alpha Media – Brooke Bickford) Sometimes it only takes one person to get an idea off and running and that was definitely the case for an upcoming event planned for this month in downtown Fort Dodge.
The first Pride Fest for Fort Dodge is being coordinated by Kyrie Borsay, owner of K.D.’s Over the Moon in downtown Fort Dodge.
Borsay moved to Fort Dodge last year. She has a PHD in education and for her dissertation she says she researched LGBTQ kids in the classroom and found there was a big need to support them.
When you enter her store, there are positive items that she says begin conversations that lead to understanding and support:
“I have some rainbow flags in my business and I had some moms come through that start a conversation with me and I tell them about the event and the one thing that is so moving to me is they say I can tell my child that I support them but to be able to stand with them in solidarity with them at an event like this is just so powerful”
Pride Fest will begin next Saturday morning at 10:00 am with a rainbow walk run that will start at the Fort Dodge Public Library Gazebo and will be followed by music, food, vendors, contests and a guest speaker.
