Food Bank Of Iowa Gets 1st Food Donation From Amazon
Recently, Food Bank of Iowa received their first food rescue donation from Amazon’s fulfillment center in Central Iowa. With this food rescue program, Amazon will donate food every two weeks. Food Bank Of Iowa will then distribute the food to Iowans in need. This food will help feed people in Central Iowa and across Food Bank Of Iowa’s 55 county service area.
The food bank says they carefully inspect donations from retailers and wholesalers. That keeps the food safe and allows them to get the food out through their network of partners.
Food Bank Of Iowa CEO Michelle Book said ” I am pleased to work with Amazon to help fight food waste and feed Iowans. It is wonderful to collaborate with another great community minder partner”.
Since Amazon opened their Cetral Iowa fulfillment center in December of 2020, they have donate more than $50,000 worth of products to local nonprofit organizations. The first donation to Food Bank of Iowa from Amazon is valued at over $30,000.
