There’s no doubt that Fort Dodge and Mason City is one of Iowa’s biggest and longest running rivalries. Friday night that rivalry was renewed at Roosevelt Field in Mason City. The Dodgers came up just short in a hard fought game 3-2. Fort Dodge left everything had from an effort stand point on the field. It was just a matter of a few mistakes that hurt Fort Dodge and a big hit for Mason City late.

Fort Dodge struck 1st, as Drake Callon scored on a Dylan Zimmerman RBI single in the top of the 1st. The Dodgers did run themselves out of what could’ve been a bigger inning with two mistakes on the base paths that cost them outs. Mason City answered with two in the bottom of the 1st,  as they capitalized on a Dodger defensive miscue.

The two pitchers Christian Davidson for FD and MasoN City’s Alex Gold would then settle in and duel. Neither team would score again until the bottom of the 5th, when Mason City got a solo HR from Ben Pederson. That extended the lead to 3-1.

Fort Dodge would get one back in the 6th, when Sawyer Springer had an RBI single to Dylan Zimmerman who singled earlier in the inning. Fort Dodge stranded a runner on 3rd in the 5th and the tying run at 2nd in the top of the 7th.

Christian Davidson had a more than solid performance in his return to the hill. He really pitched well enough to win but took the tough luck loss. Davidson went 6 innings gave up 3 runs on 6 hits, 2 earned runs, struck out 8 and hit a batter. Alex Gold got the win for Mason City, he went 6 innings allowed 2 runs on 6 hits and fanned 10. Carter Thomas got the save , working one inning striking out two and walking one.

Dylan Zimmerman had two hits, reached three times and scored once in his final game as a Dodger. Carson Peterson had two hits in the game as well.

The Dodgers conclude their season with loss, they finish with a record of 19-20.
