After just 3 and a half days in a Cerro Gordo Courtroom a Fort Dodge man accused of beating his ex-girlfriend’s mother to death with a gold club in 2020 has been found guilty of 1st degree murder.
The jury in the case against Mark Russell deliberated for around an hour and a half after closing arguments this morning.

Russell’s trial began Monday in Mason City with Attorneys Baldridge and Brad McIntyre with the Webster County Attorney’s Office prosecuting.
According to court documents, Russell was arrested in January 2020 after being accused of murdering 45-year-old Angela McLeod. A criminal complaint states that officers found McLeod face down on a bedroom floor with blood on the carpet near a golf club missing its head. She was later pronounced dead.
The family of Angela McLeod has waited a long time for this day to come.
