Fort Dodge Man Enters Not Guilty Plea To Attempted Murder & Other Charges

A Webster County man accused of deliberately running his car into a pedestrian in May, has entered not guilty pleas to charges stemming from the incident.

Shortly after 5 PM on May 8th, The Fort Dodge PD was dispatched to North 10th St on a call that a man had been hit by a vehicle. Police found the victim, 57 year old Fort Dodge resident James Altman has been seriously injured. Altman was taken to Unity Point Fort Dodge then transferred to a Des Moines hospital.

52 year old Fort Dodge resident, Edward E. Brown is charged in the incident with attempted murder, willful injury, and assault with a dangerous weapon.

According to the police report, witnesses reported that the vehicle that Brown was allegedly driving drove past Altman, then turned around and drove onto the sidewalk to deliberately hit him.

Court documents state, Brown has spoken about the incident in recorded phone calls since being held at the Webster County Jail. In those phone calls, Brown allegedly expressed desire to inflict more severe injuries on Altman.

Brown’s trial is set to begin in August.
