Fort Dodge Mother and Son Divided Going Into Super Bowl Sunday

There are a lot of sports rivalries out there. You have Iowa versus Iowa State, the Cubs versus the Cardinals, and now this weekend the Chiefs versus the Eagles.

Carlie Messerly of Fort Dodge has been a Chiefs fan since she was a little girl, her son, Saint Edmond Senior Jon Dickerson an Eagles fan for just as long.

“This weekend is going to be a house divide,” she said.

Messerly said she began her lifelong love for the Chief’s while spending time with her grandpa. “My grandpa Dickerson was a big Chief’s fan,” she said. “It was kind of my way of spending time with him.”

As with Carlie, Jon’s grandpa Bob Dickerson, who was a Washington Redskins fan had a hand in guiding Jon to make his decision and ultimately helped to create an Eagles fan and a friendly family rivalry.

She said this Sunday may get a little heated at times, she says especially when the Chiefs start really winning, but the mother and son are just going to have a good time with it.

The Kansas City Chiefs take on the Philadelphia Eagles this Sunday at 5:30 pm.
