Fort Dodge PD Announces Traffic Closure For Friday’s Homecoming Parade
This Friday, October 2, Fort Dodge Senior High will be holding their annual Homecoming Parade in
Downtown Fort Dodge. While the parade will still be observed on Central Ave as in year’s past, the
staging area has changed from previous parade events. This effort was made to allow parades to be
held along Central Ave, while also considering traffic flow for non‐parade goers, emergency vehicles and
daily vehicle traffic. Fort Dodge PD issued this statement on the traffic closures associated with Friday’s Parade, that statement is below.
Staging area – 900 and 1000 block of 2nd Avenue South
This stretch of road will be closed to all traffic beginning at 3:00 P.M. until the start of
the parade (approximately 4:00 P.M.)
Pre‐Parade Route
This will be a route taken from the staging area to the start of the parade
Beginning at South 12th Street and 2nd Ave South, ending at 14th Street and Central
Avenue Intersections along this route will be temporarily closed to allow participants to pass
through (10 – 15 minute closures)
Parade Route
o Traffic will be closed to Central Avenue at 15th Street
o Starting at Central Avenue and 14th Street, west on Central Avenue to the City Square
o All intersections along Central Avenue will be closed to traffic during the parade
o Volunteers will be at intersections to help direct traffic
o Parade goers can view the parade from the sidewalks and a reminder to please practice
social distancing
The parade is anticipated to begin at approximately 4:00 P.M. – 4:15 P.M. and last 30 – 40 minutes.
Upon completion of the parade, all roads will be opened to regular traffic. Please be aware of the
increased pedestrian and vehicle traffic in the area at that time. Please use alternative routes if passing
through the area. We appreciate everyone’s cooperation for a safe and fun event.
