Fort Dodge Police Investigate Shooting; Arrest Made
When officers with the Fort Dodge Police Department were investigating the New Star convenient store robbery at 115 N 22nd St early this morning at approximately 12:30 A.M., officers heard what they believed to be gunshots coming from the west of their location. Shortly after, the Webster County Telecommunications Center received several calls of shots fired near the 10 block of North 7th Street.
Officers spoke with several witnesses on scene who indicated several shots were fired from a silver Ford Mustang before it fled the area. It was determined that an occupied vehicle had been struck by gunfire, but no injuries were reported. Officers were able to obtain other evidence related to the shooting that had just occurred.
As the investigation continued, officers located what they believed to be the suspect vehicle in the 400 block of North 26th Place at approximately 1:15 A.M. While on scene, officers were contacted by the owner of the vehicle. Upon further investigation, it was determined the owner of the vehicle was involved in the shooting prior.
As a result of the investigation thus far, 29‐year‐old John E. Jackson of Fort Dodge has been arrested and charged with Attempted Murder (B Felony).
Mr. Jackson is currently being held in the Webster County Jail. He made his initial appearance in Webster County Magistrate Court this morning where he was ordered held on a $100,000 cash only bond. As with all cases, Mr. Jackson is considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
The Fort Dodge Police Department is continuing to investigate this incident. They encourage anyone who may have information to contact the police. The Fort Dodge Police Department was assisted by the Webster County Sheriff’s Office.
