Fort Dodge Softball Gets Clutch Hits Late To Get Past Newell-Fonda

Day one of the Fort Dodge Softball Invitational is in the books. The host team Fort Dodge, Class 5A’s #1 team gutted out a one over Class 1A’s #1 Newell-Fonda 4-1. The game was a pitchers duel between Jalen Adams and Newell-Fonda’s Kierra Jungers. Neither team could muster a run through 5 innings.

The Dodgers finally got to Jungers in the 6th. Fort Dodge had consecutive hits and scored 4 times in their half of the 6th. Jalen Adams got a one out single, Martyne Lowrey singled. Mariah Myers would drive in the game’s first run with an RBI single. TK Doster followed with an RBI Double, Tory Bennett keep the hit parade going with a two run single.

Newell-Fonda would get one in the 7th inning. Ella Larsen got on  after being hit by a pitch to lead off the 7th. She would come around to score but that was all they would get. Jalen Adams another gem in the circle, she went the distance allowing just one hit while striking out 11.

After the game, Dodger Coach Andi Adams had high praise for her former player, Courtney Darrow’s squad.

Adams says she was happy with how her team responded to the pressure of being taken to “deep water”.

The Dodgers have now won 13 straight. Fort Dodge moves to the Semifinals, they will take on a Devenport Assumption squad who won State in their class last year. That game is scheduled for a 1:30 PM 1st pitch on Saturday. The Championship Game is set to begin around 5 PM.
