Fort Dodge Softball Splits With Twin Bill With Johnston, Adams Throws No Hitter

#1 Fort dodge Softball opened their season on Monday night. The Dodgers split a double header over a ranked Johnston squad. Fort Dodge took game 8-0, Johnston took the night cap 9-3.

In the opener, Fort Dodge scored three in the 1st inning. Martyne Lowrey had an RBI double to put Fort Dodge up 1-0. It was one of her three hits in the game. Next up was 8th grader Mariah Myers in her 1st varsity at-bat.

The two run single from Myers put Fort Dodge up 3-0. The Dodgers got three in the 5th, a 2-run homer for TK Doster and an RBI double for Myers. Myers had two hits and drove in three in her first varsity game. Jalen Adams was 4 for 4 in the game, and had a solo homer in the 6th. While she was great at the plate, her pitching was even better.

Adams with a complete game no hitter, she struck out 11 along the way. Here’s Dodger Coach Andi Adams on the no hitter and her teams performance in the opener.

The second game was a different story. The Dodgers struck 1st scoring in the 1st on an RBI single from Tory Bennett. Johnston tied it on an Ella Smithson solo homer in the 2nd. Johnston went up 3-1 on a two run single from AVA Smithson in the 3rd. The Dragons added a solo homer in the 5th by Emma Roethler to lead 4-1. The bottom fell out for Fort Dodge in the 6th as Johnston sent 9 to the plate and scored five. They took a commanding 9-1 lead into the bottom of the 6th. Fort Dodge scratched one across in the 6th and one more in the 7th. It was too little, to late though as Johnston Pitcher Kira Draeger closed out a complete game and they took game two 9-3.

Coach Adams wasn’t happy with her team’s level of play in game two.
