By Rob Jones- The Fort Dodge Dodger softball team will open play in the 2019 Iowa State Tournament this coming Tuesday July 23rd at 7pm. Harlan Rogers Sports Complex in Fort Dodge will once again be the home for the Iowa State Softball Tournament. The Dodgers will open with a familiar foe in West Des Moines Valley. The Dodgers swept the season series with WDM Valley taking both games of the doubleheader in Fort Dodge back on July the 9th. The Dodgers won 12-10 in the 1st game and 6-2 in the second game to complete the 1st season sweep of Valley since 2006 according to Dodger Coach Andi Adams. The Dodgers are the overall #2 seed in class 5A with a 24-6 record having won 10 in a row and 16 of their last 17. They won the regional title over Ankeny 3-0 to qualify to compete for Iowa’s richest prize. West Des Moines Valley is the overall #7 seed in 5A with a record of 29-10. Valley bounced back after the Fort Dodge doubleheader sweep and defeated Des Moines Lincoln 3-0 in their playoff opener and then defeated Des Moines Hoover 6-1 to qualify for state. The Dodgers look to beat WDM Valley for a 3rd time in the same season, which defeating a good team 3 times in one season is widely considered one of the toughest things to do in sports. Coach Andi Adams says at this point it’s about her team “doing what they do” more than anything else. You can hear every pitch of the Dodgers quest for the state title on Sunny 99.7 beginning at 7pm Tuesday July 23rd.
