Friday State Semifinal Report: Dowling Catholic Falls, Southeast Polk Rolls, Chalk Holds In Class A

Day two of the State Semifinals took place Friday from the UNI Dome. In Class 4A, their will be a new king of the mountain as Ankeny knocked off 7 time defending State Champs Dowling Catholic 31-24 in double overtime. Ankeny rallied after being down 14-3 at the half. They would come back and take the lead 17-14 in the 4th, Dowling would get a late field goal to tie it at 17. In the 1st OT, both teams would trade scores. In the 2nd extra session, Ankeny QB Jase Bauer found pay dirt for the game winning score. Bauer would have 117 rushing yards and 3 total TD’s, 2 passing and one rushing. Ankeny will take on Southeast Polk for the State Title next week. Southeast Polk routed Pleasant Valley 50-10. Rams racked up over 400 yards of total offense. They led 21-0 at half and 36-3 after 3. Rams RB Titus Christiansen had 18 carries for 176 rushing yards and 2 TD’s.

In Class A, the chalk held as Iowa City Regina downed St. Ansgar 49-28. The game was tied at 7 after the 1st. Iowa City Regina would outscore St. Ansgar 42-21 the rest of the way. Iowa City Regina RB Theo Kolie would go for 163 yards on the ground and 3 scores on 24 carries. QB Ashton Cook would account for 4 TD’s on the night as well. Iowa City Regina will take on Grundy Center for the State Title. Grundy Center handled Council Bluffs- St. Albert 34-6. Grundy Center would rack up over 400 yards rushing in the game. Grundy Center’s RB and QB duo of Zach Opheim and Logan Knaack dominated the game. The two would combine for 437 rushing yards and 5 rushing TD’s on 40 carries.
