From The Mat- High School Wrestling Review From The Weekend

There was a plethora of high school wrestling for local teams over the weekend. The results included a first for a local female wrestler, a 1st place finish for the 1st time in Emmetsburg and a 3rd straight title in Council Bluffs. Fort Dodge wrestler Alexis Ross competed in her first ever all girls varsity tournament in Waverly over the weekend. Ross defeated the defending state champion Avery Meier of Waverly- Shell Rock in the 132 pound class to bring home the title.

The Emmetsburg inviational saw a host of area teams compete there over the weekend. St. Edmond Junior Ryan Duckett won the 113 pound weight class championship. Gaels freshmen Ronnie Orres finished 6th in his weight class and teammate Noah Carlson finished 7th in his weight class. CLGLR finished 1st in the team standings, Emmetsburg was 2nd, Algona 4th, Eagle Grove 8th, Pocahontas Area 12th and St. Edmond with a 14th place finish,. Andrew Hamilton of Algona won the 220 pound weight class with Eagle Grove’s Joel Mendoza claiming 2nd. Eagle Grove’s Mark Dawson finished 2nd at 145 pounds.

The Fort Dodge wrestling team finished 3rd in the team standings at the Council Bluffs Classic over the weekend. Drake Ayala won his 3rd straight title at Council Bluffs at 120 pounds and he eclipsed the 100 win mark in his career. The Dodgers finished 3rd at 468 total team points, finishing behind 2 other nationally ranked teams. Carson Taylor finished 2nd at 126 pounds. Levi Egli took 3rd at 195 lbs and Austin Lee was 4th at 182. Max Bishop, Lane Cowell, and Brooks Cowell all had 5th place finishes in their respective weight classes.  Drezyon Phillips was 7th at 138, Brandon Mills 9th at 145, and Kody Cook took 9th at 152. The Dodgers will be back in action Thursday night hosting Southeast Polk.
