High School Football Week 4 Area Preview

Week 4 of the season shapes to be the most important week of the season thus far. It is filled with games that provide opportunities for area teams to make a statement. For one area team that statement would be how they respond to their first loss of the season last week, for another the statement is can they push an elite level team to the limit, and for another the statement would be they still are the “measuring stick” in their district.

The Fort Dodge Dodgers are looking to bounce back in week 4 after a 52-18 home loss to a highly ranked Ankney team in weeks 3. Fort Dodge is on the road to renew their storied rivalry with Marshalltown. These teams were not originally scheduled to play this year but the city schools in Des Moines have been sidelined by a lack of in person learning mandated by the Governor to maintain the ability to play fall sports. Therefore, Des Moines North had to cancel their game at Fort Dodge and the scheduled game between Marshalltown and Des Moines East also was cancelled. So as we often see fate had a way of working things out. The Dodgers have had the upper hand in the rivalry in recent years. Fort Dodge is looking for their 4th consecutive win and their 7th in the last 8 meetings in the series. The game will air on “92 Rock” starting with the pregame show at 6:45 PM. Dodger Coach Nik Moser says the Marshalltown game will serve as an opportunity for his team to respond.

On “Sunny” 99.7 starting with the pregame show at 6:45 PM, the unbeaten St. Edmond Gaels have their biggest test of the season. They travel to take on defending Class A State Champs 9th ranked West Hancock. It’s no secret West Hancock plays a “smash mouth” style, they have ran the football 6.5 more times than they have thrown it in 3 games this season. Their RB Cole Kelly has over 550 yards rushing this season and over 2,500 career rushing yards. The Gaels offense has shown balance and has play makers all over the field. Gaels Coach Matt Dillon says this game serves as a great opportunity for his team. Casey Meiners will have the call of tonight’s match up.

The 3rd ranked South Central Calhoun Titans are still unbeaten, they are the defending district champs and are on the road tonight. Titans take on Pocahontas Area in a battle of unbeaten teams. Mark Williamson and Brian Peters will have the call of this huge district match up on 105-9 “the beach”. Titans Head Coach Brian Case says he expects an electric atmosphere at Pocahontas Area.

All of those games can also be heard here on our website.
