HS Basketball Results From 1-27 And Line Up For 1-28
Monday night saw the continuation of one of the most storied rivalries in Iowa high school sports as Fort Dodge hosted Mason City. The Dodger Girls would fall to rival Mason City 59-47. Fort Dodge trailed by just 2 after the 1st quarter but Mason City would outscore the Dodgers 26-8 in the 2nd to take a 20 point lead into the half. Fort Dodge would continue to play hard and would play even in the 3rd and outscore Mason City in the 4th 17-9. However, the early double digit deficit was too much to overcome. Mason city had 3 players in double figures led by a game high 17 from Anna Deets. The Dodgers had 4 in double figures Tory Bennett and Aleaha Pommer had 12, Cheyenne Miller- Hammed with 10 and Jalen Adams with a season high 10 as well.
In the Boys game Fort Dodge fell 72-64, The Dodgers started slow and trailed by 12 after the 1st quarter. The Dodgers would trail by as many as 15 in the 1st half. The Dodgers came alive in the 2nd half though and showed tremendous heart in a gutsy comeback effort that fell short. Dodgers outscored Mason City 21 to 16 in the 3rd. Fort Dodge would cut the lead down to 5 in the 4th. They trailed by 6 with just over 3 minutes left when Dodger guard Brycen Bell stole the ball, went coast to coast , and finished at the rim. A controversial charge call against Bell from the official trailing well behind the play,negated the bucket that would have cut it to 4 and possibly 3 pending the free throw. Mason city scored on their ensuing possession completing the 4 point swing. Mason City had 4 players in double figures led by Carter Thomas and Jeff Skogen with 16. The Dodgers were led by Senior Ty Kershaw’s double-double effort of 24 points and 10 rebounds, Junior Dayson Clayton added 16. The Dodger boys are back in action on Tuesday in a boys only game a 7:45 PM scheduled tip off you can hear the game on “92 Rock” and here on our website.
Tuesday will see South Central Calhoun and St. Edmond return to action. South Central Calhoun will be on the road taking on West Bend-Mallard. The SCC girls look to get back on track after losing 3 of their last 4. The South Central Calhoun Boys are as hot as any team in North Central Iowa right now as they are on an 8 game win streak. SCC has 4 guys that average double figures, Led by Zane Neubaum who is averaging 25.4 PPG. Neubaum is currently 8th in the state in scoring average and has games of 25,35, and 40 in the last couple weeks. St. Edmond will be on the road at Algona a 6 PM scheduled start time for the girls pregame show on “Sunny” 99.7, Greg Woods will be on the call. The St. Edmond girls are looking to get in the win column for the first time this season. The Gaels Boys have won 3 out of their last 4, they fell in a double OT heart breaker to Webster City on Friday. The Gaels look to knock an Algona Boys team that comes in 9-3.
