HS Football Report: Dodgers Explode Offensively In Win, Gaels Use Big 2nd Half To Pull Away, Titans Defense Key In Win

Week 1 of the 2020 of the season is now in the books, getting back to action on the field provided a return to a sense of normalcy we haven’t had since Spring. Dodger Coach Nik Moser realized a childhood dream in his debut as Head Coach and the dream turned into a nightmare for the Ames defense. The Dodgers set a school record for points scored in the 81-54 season opening win. The Dodgers put up nearly 750 total yards of offense which is also a school record. Defensively the Dodgers did have some issues with Ames QB Tamim Lipsey who had a combined 579 yards of total offense, 8 total touchdowns 5 passing and 3 rushing. However, The Dodger defense did force 3 turnovers in the game and were able to take advantage of those, Sam Daniel with 2 interceptions and Jerry Chada had a fumble recovery. Daniel made plays all night, he had a TD run in the 1st half and a kick return for a TD. WR Tyler Schreier with two TD catches and a TD run.  RB Dayson Clayton had an incredible performance 23 carries, 325 yards, 5 rushing TD’s, and a 59 yard TD Catch on the night.

Here’s Clayton’s final TD of the night a 55 yard scamper to cap off a “mountain top performance”

The Dodgers got contributions all over the field, the offensive line along with Jace Ulrich (who the Dodgers are using at H-Back as a lead blocker in the run game) came off the ball all night and got a push up front to open running lanes. Dodgers will be at Mason City in week 2 for the “battle of the Decker Trophy”.

St. Edmond used a 2nd half surge to pull away from Eagle Grove in route to a 61-16 victory. The Gaels trailed early but would remain composed and battle back to take a 27-16 halftime lead. They would outscore Eagle Grove 34-0 after the break to pull away. Gaels rushed for over 300 yards in the game. Drew Schaeffer had 4 TD passes, 3 in the 2nd half. Tyler Rossmanith had 148 yards rushing on 12 carries including a 69 yard TD run in the 2nd half. Sean Flattery with 7 carries for 91 yards and 2 TD’s. Parker Oswald had 2 int’s on the night as the St. Edmond defense forced 5 total turnovers. Kase Baker with 2 TD catches on the night along with 53 yards rushing on 7 carries. Gaels will have their home opener Friday taking on Clarion-Goldfield-Dows.

The South Central Calhoun Titans came into week 1 ranked #2 in class 1A. They won the opener but Carroll-Kuemper gave them a 4 quarter fight. Titans won the game 14-0, riding their defense to a season opening victory. Blake Mclaister with 164 yards rushing a TD and QB Cole Corey had a rushing TD as well. Titans defense allowed just 164 total yards of offense on the night. The Titans will take on Greene County on the road in week 2.
